“hold on... are you crying?” the petty back and forth was what carson was used to with them, to the point where he rarely held his tongue around them at all. taking things a step too far wouldn’t be unlike him, though. he wasn’t always known for thinking before letting something come out of his mouth. “what the fuck? pull it together.” 

“you say i’m changing. sorry, i didn’t know i had to say the same.” 

“oh, it’s official?” carson can’t help but sound a little less than enthused, flat more than anything else. “good. great. i just kept you around in case i felt lonely, anyway.”

“so, melissa just text me.” melissa, his ex, who was also lingering somewhere around the party. this had always been the goal in their little scheme however carson couldn’t say he was actually feeling too enthusiastic about the text. he didn’t really know how he felt about it at all, in actual face. he held his phone up, “should i reply?”

“can you stop being so fucking difficult? i’m finally getting my big break and i’ll be damned if the press catches wind of bad vibes between us and writes me off before i even get my chance.”

with his career now starting to take off carson’s management had hired him a personal assistant. someone to keep him right and on track throughout his growing busy schedule  — but as far as he was concerned it was just someone paid to hang out with him. “what’s on the schedule today? i got time for a run and a smoothie?” he offers a half-smile. “i’d settle for just grabbing the smoothie if you come with.”

this was his first ever serious acting gig and for someone so typically foolish, carson was actually trying really hard not to mess it up. however, in part of not messing it up he felt like it was important to get on with the rest of the cast. he made the effort with everyone. dropping in to trailers, being his usual idiotic self when they were hanging around in between getting the set ready. naturally the person he was keen to get to know the most was his co-star; the  chemistry was important. hence why he made the effort to drop by their trailer with a coffee in each hand, meaning he had to thump at the door with his elbow before calling out, “open up. i have lattes and a pretty funny story about rob.”

“do you like it?” carson was rather proud of his ‘feature wall’ in the living room, covered in various pieces of art. after being told several times by friends and family that he had to make the place his own, stumbling across a bunch of thrown out pieces of work had seemed a little too coincidental for him. so, now they sat out in prime position in his apartment. “i needed something to liven the place up a bit and i didn’t want to have to paint the walls so, next best thing right?”
